School Module: De-Escalation Strategies
Needs Statement
Adolescents can become agitated and lose the ability to regulate their emotions and behavior in the moment for a variety of reasons. How adults respond can influence the adolescent’s behavior. This module will illustrate how to and how not to respond to an adolescent who is agitated. The escalation/de-escalation cycle will be illustrated and described.
Target Audience
The target audience for this course includes teachers and other school-based personnel.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify stages of escalation.
- Know how to work with adolescents who are escalating.
